There is increasing interest in fabrication of functional nanoarrays on substrates, which can find important functional applications in catalysis, energy storage, solar cells, absorption, photonics, and chemical sensors. In particular, semiconductor TiO2 nanoarrays, fabricated and employed for energy and environmental applications, attract much attention. However, it is still challenging to fabricate TiO2 nanoarrays with desired structures in a controlled manner on arbitrary substrates. In this presentation, our recent efforts on the design and preparation of TiO2 nanoarrays on different substrates with structure control will be reported. The structure and composition are thoroughly characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD). A number of proof-of-concept applications will be demonstrated, and the improved performance could be attributed to structure and chemical functionalized surface control.
