Aqueous phase reforming of glycerol over Ni-based catalysts was carried out for the production of hydrogen. The Ni-based catalyst was prepared by an incipient wetness impregnation method. The catalysts before and after the reaction were characterized by N2 physisorption, CO chemisorption, XRD, TPR, SEM and TEM techniques. It was found that Ni (20 wt%)-Co(3 wt%)/γ-Al2O3 catalyst showed higher glycerol conversion with H2/CO = 4 than the other catalysts. There are no major changes in Ni particles after the reaction over APR of glycerol over Ni-Co/γ-Al2O3 catalyst. The results suggest that the Ni-Co/γ-Al2O3catalyst can be applied to the production of hydrogen for applications in fuel processor and hydrogen station.
