AIChE-IChemE Joint Session I - Energy & Sustainability
Wednesday, October 31, 2012 - 1:05pm to 1:35pm
Water is required to produce energy and energy is required to make use of water. This energy water nexus is playing an increasingly important role in site selection and process synthesis as well as impacting existing facilities. As people’s need for water increases, for agricultural and personal use, more and more industrial water use will be under pressure. New energy options including carbon capture systems, fracking systems for natural gas production and some biofuel systems are increasing our water demand. New and creative process solutions to address the energy water nexus will need to be developed and chemical engineers will play a critical role.
