Bench to Bedside to Business: Translation of Biomedical Technology
Wednesday, October 31, 2012 - 12:30pm to 1:20pm
Translational early stage Medical device development and the evolution of technology and a company to the point of ultimate commercialization can be fraught with pitfalls. This presentation will highlight and illustrate real life challenges that occur during the product development process which must be overcome in order to obtain regulatory approvals followed by successful commercialization and a meaningful monetary exit for private and institutional investors. The progress of a company is often complicated and costly due to the development of new and potentially disruptive technologies which are frequently the first of their kind in a targeted market space and therapeutic application. Early stage companies are often constrained by limited resources but nevertheless must successfully maneuver through these challenges in order to successfully capitalize the company and bring to market a revolutionary therapeutic modality that will improve the clinical and quality of life outcomes for thousands of patients while at the same time reducing the total cost of care for the health care system.
