Chlor Alkali sector is one of the most important sectors in chemical industry. But, this sector consumed the electricity energy the most because the electrolysis process. Plasma electrolysis is a method that can be applied in chlor alkali production process and can reduce the energy consumption several times. Plasma technology involves the formation of sparks of electricity by passing an electric current through a gas in a process called disconnection of electricity (electrical breakdown). Because of the electrical resistance throughout the system, it will produced a number of significant amounts of heat, which takes electrons from molecules of gas produces a stream of ionized gas, or plasma (Gomez et al, 2009). In previous researches, in hydrogen production from water, plasma electrolysis can reduce the energy consumption more than conventional electrolysis. In this paper, plasma electrolysis technology will be applied in chlor alkali electrolysis process. The plasma electrolysis in chlor alkali production will form the active radical species of NaCl and H2O which then make the productivity increases. Products resulted will be measured and compared to the result from conventional electrolysis. Finally, the energy consumption used will be calculated and the efficiency will be analyzed.
