(55e) Gasoline Range Hydrocarbons Synthesis From Model Bio-Syngas Over Mo/Zeolite Bi-Functional Catalysts: Experimental and Kinetic Study

Biomass to liquid transportation fuels via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (BTL-FT) is gaining increasing interests from academia and industry because of its ability to produce carbon neutral and environmentally friendly clean fuels, such kind of fuels can help to meet the globally increasing energy demand and also to meet the stricter environmental regulations in the future. In this process, biomass, such as woodchips and straw stalk, is firstly converted into biomass-derived syngas (bio-syngas) by gasification. Then cleaning process is applied on bio-syngas to remove impurities to produce clean bio-syngas which meets the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis requirements. Cleaned bio-syngas is then conducted into Fischer-Tropsch catalytic reactor to produce renewable gasoline, diesel and other clean biofuels. In this work, Zeolites supported Molybdenum bi-functional catalysts have been prepared and tested in a fixed bed reactor with temperature range of 300-380oC, pressure range of 500-1000psi, and GHSV range of 600-2400h-1. Model bio-syngas with composition H2: CO: N2=20: 20: 60 which is similar to woody bio-syngas has been used as the feed. The results showed that Mo/Zeolite catalysts have high selectivity towards gasoline range hydrocarbons. The fresh and used catalysts have been characterized with SEM, EDX, and TEM. The kinetic study has been conducted according to experimental data.
