Abstract:

In order to solve the “sintering phenomena” by using calcium-based sorbents for CO2 sequestration, we has modified calcium based sorbents (MCS) using metal oxides and metal carbonates dry powders, such as MgCO3, Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, ZrO2, etc.  The modified calcium based sorbents had significantly improved the cycle times, CO2 sequestration efficiency, particle size distribution, as well as operation temperatures.

Several analytic equipments, such as TGA, DMA, SEM, XRD, particle size analyzer, mercury analyzer, were used to evaluate the particle composite, structure, and material activities.  Our preliminary results indicated that the modified calcium based sorbents (MCS) have not only improved the cycle times, but also improved the CO2 sequestration efficiency.  SEM morphology studies indicated that the surface of modified calcium based sorbents had formed an stable highly porous surface structure, which has significantly improved the CO2 sequestration and releasing. Comprehensive studies of material composition and scale up test are on the way.
