The SMART factory project has been developed a process to reduce CO2 emissions through researching and developing a process to make plastic from biomass at the biomass accumulated factory in Maniwa, Okayama.

At the biomass accumulated factory, wood chips have been made from shavings and unused wood parts from sawmills. The biomass factory consists of a building chips plant which makes the wood chips, a building silo which store chips, and a building barkyard which crush bark. The energy used at the biomass accumulated factory consists of electric power and liquid fossil fuels. Liquid fossil fuels have been used by forklift trucks and others. The CO2 emissions by liquid fossil fuels are accounted for about 43% of the biomass accumulated factory.

In order to reduce 25% CO2 emissions, the SMART factory is planted to be supplied by renewable energy that will used to operate the wood chips plant and developing a biomass plastic factory.

In this study, in order to achieve this aim, the mathematical simulation model which calculates the energy demand and supply per hour in the SMART factory has been developed. And based on the mathematical simulation model, the system which is able to reduce consumption of liquid fossil fuels and electric power has been designed.

As a result, it has been proved that it is possible to reduce 25% or more CO2 emissions using the system that combines photovoltaic power generation with electric forklift trucks.
