Membranes for Gas Separation

Co-chair(s)

Bose, A. C., National Energy Technology Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy

Transformative gas separation technologies will enable step change improvements in the cost, efficiency, and environmental performance of advanced power systems. The session will focus on the applications of membrane technology R&D for gas separation, especially for the production of oxygen and hydrogen. Papers discussing recent R&D accomplishments and outlining the technical and economic advantages of membrane-based gas separation technologies for enabling low-cost, high-efficiency options for reliably producing or co-producing power, fuels and chemicals, are of interest. We invite your participation to report the progress of membrane science and to share your insights on the needs, opportunities, and challenges for continued advancement of membrane technologies for gas separation applications. The suggested, but not all inclusive, interest areas are listed below. • Membranes for Oxygen Separation Ion-Electron Conducting Membranes Other Oxygen Separation Membranes: Scale-Up and Commercial Potential • Membranes for Hydrogen Separation Dense Solution-Diffusion Membranes: Metallic and Composites Other Hydrogen Separation Membranes: Scale-Up and Commercial Potential • Power cycles and system studies highlighting the integration of oxygen and hydrogen separation membranes for low cost, low carbon, and energy efficient electrical generation technologies • New Approaches to Membrane Separator Module Design • Technical and/or Economic Modeling of Membrane Separation Processes • Next-Generation Membranes for Gas Separation (Non-CO2) Applications.
