Lithium-air (Li-air) battery has attracted extraordinary attention due to its significantly high specific energy and energy density, which makes it a very promising candidate for portable and transportation applications. Currently, the development of Li-air battery faces critical challenges such as high discharge/charge overpotentials, low rate capability and short cycle life. It has been shown that catalysts can effectively reduce the discharge/charge overpotentials and result in enhanced cell performance. We have prepared air electrode with nanostructured perovskite La1-xCexFe1-yMnyO3 catalyst and obtained high specific capacity ~ 5000 mAh/g. The dependence of cell performance on catalyst composition, structure as well as carbon support are studied.
