In our day-to-day life, we sometimes come across in newspapers that an oil tanker collides in mid sea and that large quantity of oil is spilled away, often accompanied by gory pictures of sea/ marine life. This is usually followed by protests by environmentalists against the company demanding compensation to bring back the beauty of the sea. This is a normal show which takes place and we the people are not aware of the problems going to be faced in the future both economic and the environmental damages. In addition to the cost incurred in cleaning of the sea, precious fuel is lost; resulting in the oil price hike. This paper aims at suggesting the means to recover the spilt oil thereby saving valuable fuel oil as well as guarding the beauty and safety of the environment. This paper deals with the sea which is polluted by oil, what are the causes of oil spills, how oil spill occur, what are the effects of marine-Eco system, what are the methods are available for cleanup of oil spill and latest advanced methods of recovery.
