Poster Session: Food and Bioprocess Engineering
Wednesday, November 6, 2013 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
The Biotechnology and Food Engineering group at Monash University has developed a low temperature assembly approach to synthesise monodisperse microparticles in a scalable, waste-free process, stemming from their research on thermal sensitive dairy powders. Using a microfluidic jet spray drying method, functional particles with uniform properties, including fluorescent and magnetic composites, polymeric microparticles for encapsulation and controlled release, and mesoporous microspheres, can be synthesised. The fabrication route is applicable to other self-assembling systems and could be a cost effective, energy and material-efficient route to produce bioactive powders with potential technology transfer to functional foods and therapeutics industry. The talk will give an overview of this assembly method with examples of several applications, and the view to invite future collaboration opportunities.
