Biomimetic and Bioinspired Membranes and Membrane Processes I

Chair(s)

Jiang, Z., Tianjin University

Co-chair(s)

Michalsky, R., Brown University

Borrowing the elegant and exceptional materials processing methods such as biomineralization, bioadhesion, self-assembly, self-cleaning, self-healing from nature, a variety of membranes have been fabricated in recent years, with numerous inspiring properties such as sophistication, miniaturization, hierarchical organizations, selective transport, stability/resistance and adaptability. These membranes have made and will make great contributions in sustainable resources, environment, energy, human health areas. This session will entertain papers that focus on membranes and membrane process with distinct biomimietic and bioinspired attributes in terms of materials, preparation, structure and mass transfer characteristics, process intensification, etc.
