Disk centrifuges[1] have been widely used for downstream harvesting of yeast, mammalian and microbial cells. Heretofore, the operation of the centrifuges is largely based on ad-hoc trial-and-error experiences.

A model of separating cells using a disk centrifuge is presented. The model is validated against experiments on a pilot-scale centrifuge. An interesting example is used to illustrate how the model can be used to predict performance of inclusion-body separation.
