Distillation Honors: Mark Pilling

Mr. Mark Pilling is a globally-known distillation expert. His background includes trays, packings, process simulations, programming and troubleshooting. He is a Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Oklahoma.
After receiving a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Oklahoma, Mark joined Total Petroleum in Ardmore, Oklahoma. For six years, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the following refinery units: Crude, vacuum, saturated gas separations, vacuum gas oil hydrotreater, distillate hydrotreater, naptha hydrotreater, catalytic reformer and C5/C6 isomerization.
After a brief stint with Fluor-Daniel in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mark joined Nutter Engineering in Tulsa, OK in 1995. That company was acquired by Sulzer Chemtech in 1996. Mark continues to contribute on that Tulsa staff. At present, Mark’s title is Manager of Technology. His responsibilities include R&D, Technology Transfer and Process Engineering.
Mr. Mark Pilling has contributed appreciably to Fractionation Research, Inc. (FRI) where he has served on the Technical Committee (TC) ever since 2001. He has also contributed appreciably to the AIChE where he is an Elected Fellow. He was a Director of the Separations Division for 5 years; its Chair, in 2012.
This presentation reviews Mr. Pilling’s bibliography and summarizes several of his most important papers.
