The present work describes an application of a BioMEMS device for lysis of E. coli and the concentration of plasmidic DNA. The design of the microchannel fabricated in PDMS includes two sections of insulators, and DC electric fields are generated along its length to continuously produce irreversible electroporation on the cells and concentrate plasmidic DNA by negative dielectrophoresis. It also allows the redirection of trapped and concentrated particles to specific outlets to aid in the recovery of the targeted analytes. This method can be used as an alternative to traditional chemical or physical procedures for DNA, ARN, or protein recovery from cells, in the aim of the miniaturization of laboratory processes.
