Dunn, R. F. - Presenter, Vanderbilt University

A small engineering consulting business was started in 2004 with the modest objectives of addressing short-term business opportunities while remaining in a specific geographic location.  Full-time commitment to this venture occurred for a seven-year period.  Ten years and 154 engineering projects later the business continues to operate.  Personal and professional lessons learned on business planning and strategies, accounting and financial tools, fixed asset investments, family involvement, and finally, the pros and cons of this career path versus the traditional non-ownership career path will be discussed.
