Interfacial and Non-Linear Flows I: Droplets and Emulsions
Tuesday, November 18, 2014 - 5:30pm to 5:45pm
The stability of spherical emulsion droplets with interfacially adsorbed colloids in Pickering emulsions is well-known. Recent single-droplet studies have shown that controlled interfacial jamming of colloids can be used to create stable non-spherical emulsion drop shapes. Here we study the production of multiple elongated drops using careful tuning of fluid rheology to preserve shapes and enable the study of colloid interfacial packing. Simulations of spherical packing on ellipsoidal surfaces are compared to past work on spherical surfaces and used to develop criteria for stability and coverage in material synthesis.
