Studying the hydrodynamics of particles in a spouted fluidized bed is the aim of this paper. The floatation and circulation of particles occurs by means of applying an air jet from a nozzle at the bottom of the spouted bed. Applying a background velocity causes better performance by eliminating dead zones and helps improvement in the particles activity in the spouted fluidized bed. The interaction between the particles motions and the air flow field is the most important phenomenon in spouted fluidized beds. In this study, a numerical simulation using Eulerian-Lagrangian approach is used to solve Navier Stokes equations for the gas phase and Newton's laws for the solid phase to investigate the hydrodynamics of gas solid flow in a spouted fluidized bed.
