(495c) One Professor's Journey Toward Implementation of Design Build

This paper will describe efforts by one tenured faculty member to introduce prototyping into a class (Heat Transfer) and capstone design.  First, the presentation will review the history of prototyping in chemical engineering education.  Next, the challenges and outcomes of a paper design and prototype of a heater with a resistive heating element will be discussed.  Following discussion of the heater prototype, the idea of prototyping a battery system for a capstone design project will be presented.  The presentation will conclude with a summary of the two design build efforts.
