An excellent understanding of design and operating requirements is of importance in a natural gas liquefaction plant to improve the plant energy efficiency. This paper presents and analyzes steady state and dynamic models of two different natural gas liquefaction processes. Both models were generated using Aspen HYSYS and were optimized to reduce energy consumption and capital costs while maintaining an optimum liquefaction rate. The overall energy requirements, capital costs, and operating costs are compared between the two natural gas liquefaction processes and the advantages and disadvantages of each are outlined.
