Construction Board Made from Coconut Fiber

Coconut fiber (extracted from coconut husk) and coconut pith can be made into a biodegradable fiberboard when combined with an eco-friendly binder. Coconut fiber is inexpensive, abundant in many tropical countries, and has good mechanical properties. This makes it very promising for use in developing countries due to the large demand for fiberboard and makes its manufacture both feasible and profitable. By varying the amount of coconut fiber, the length of the fiber, the amount of coconut pith, and the percentage of binder, a fiberboard was created that passed the ANSI Standards for use as indoor furniture and construction board.
