The sludge generated from recycle paper industry and disposal chalanges associated with it are increasing with the growth of wastepaper based industry in India. The utilization of such wastes in concrete applications like building materials can not only reduce the waste but also generate revenue. This work presents a study carried out at laboratory scale for the use of recycle paper industry sludge in light weight bricks for some specific applicaion. The fired clay brick were made and tested with varied proportion of clay and sludge from recycle paper industry. The clay is replaced by 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% sludge from recycle paper industry. In order to evaluate the durability during services bulk density, specific gravity, water absorption, mass loss and appearance were determined. Moreover thermal conductivity and compressive were also tested. TGA, XRD and SEM were also carried out to determine the characteristics of raw material. The water abosrbency of the bricks prepared from recycle paper industry sludge and clay was found 10.2%, 13.95% 19.5%, 25.3% respectively, while the density was found 1796 kg/m3, 1581 kg/m3, 1444 kg/m3, 1396 kg/m3 respectivelyfor 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30 % replacement of clay by sludge. It was observed that bricks prepared from recycle paper industry sludge and clay was light weighted and highly porus possesses sufficient compressive strength and contributes towards solid waste management.
