(37b) Thermodynamics Needs Common to Process Simulation of Small to Intermediate Scale Manufacturers

Small to intermediate scale manufacturers often deal with specialty chemicals that require unique processing operations. Developing simulation models for these clients requires extensive knowledge of the entire scope of model options and their advantages and limitations. This experience suggests several opportunities for improvement in predictive activity models, equations of state, and transport property models that would benefit from deeper thermodynamic analysis. A list of suggested problem areas is surveyed and detailed case studies are presented to illustrate the manner in which the problems arise and how improvements could be implemented.
