This work presents a dynamic simulation and optimization model of a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process to purify coal bed methane (CBM). The developed simulation model is well validated by comparing experimental results. Based on the simulation model, the optimization is carried out to scale up the PSA process design from a laboratory scale to a commercial size plant via a pilot plant scale. The scale up optimization results are verified by PSA vendor company in Korea. The PSA optimization methodology (Ko et al., 2005) is implemented in this study within the gPROMS modeling system. As a result, PSA pilot plant has been constructed and will be operated at CBM site.
