Wastewater and sludges generated from industrial and municipal activities require biological treatment either aerobic or anaerobic prior to disposal into environment. Anaerobic wastewater treatment processes are preferable as compare to aerobic processes for the waste having Chemical oxygen demand (COD) above 1300 mg/L. In this present work performance evaluation of anaerobic digester has been done while digesting various kind of industrial waste. Anaerobic digestion process is preferable for the treatment of distillery, pulp & paper, ice cream wastewater, tannery wastewater, two phase olive pomace wastewater and also digests municipal and industrial sludges. The anaerobically treated effluent requires post treatment because of the effluent quality is not as good as treated aerobically. Detailed kinetic study has been done for suspended growth anaerobic digestion processes and also their efficiency in terms of COD removal and also methane production rate has been studied.
