The analytical expression for Taylor dispersion, which can be applied to isocratic capillary zone electrophoresis with a pressure-driven flow component, is often applied to zone electrophoresis in microchannels and to non-isocratic electrophoretic methods such as isoelectric focusing and isotachophoresis. This paper will discuss some of the various sources of dispersion that can occur in non-isocratic microchannel electrophoresis and provides an estimate of their impact on device resolution for the case of isotachophoresis with a laminar counterflow.
