Nanosize TiO2 and N-doped TiO2 have been successfully prepared by one-step liquid flame spray pyrolysis (FSP). The effect of the fuel flow rate, powder production rate, precursor mixing condition, and total oxidant flow rate on product particle size, morphology, Quantity of N sources, types of N sources in the precursor and composition was also investigated. Resulting powders were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2-physisorption, XPS, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and UV–Vis spectrophotometry. The UV-vis spectroscopy results of N incorporated TiO2 showed enhancement of light absorption in the visible range by selected composite materials in the UV range (250-400 nm). This effect is due to the insertion of N in the TiO2 matrix, which generated p-type impurity band.  XPS study allows spotting out the role and significance of the surface species in the reaction and, in particular, the important and unique role of anionic N species in modifying the behaviour of the nanoparticles.  We have found the Ti/N ratio of 13% for the materials synthesized from our XPS data. The higher surface areas of around (100-120 M2/g) were observed for the catalysts. These interesting results will be discussed in the presentation.
