Abstract: Due to the unique emulsification and wettability of polyoxyethylene 2-ethylhexanol ether, the nonionic
surfactants have been widely applied in many areas, especially been utilized for
replacing a potentially carcinogenic and reproductive toxicity surfactant, polyoxyethylene nonyl phenyl
ether. While the reaction of commercial primary alcohol with branched alkyl has
not well been known. The kinetic parameters, reaction rate constants, of the
chain reaction were investigated by the intrinsic kinetics. The kinetic
parameters were further compared with those of 1-octanol or 2-octanol. The
results suggested that the ethoxylation rates of 2-ethylhexanol
is more than that of 2-octanol, and less than that of 1-octanol; and the
product distribution is related to the step kinetic parameters of the chain
reaction which was catalized by different alkaline.
