Recently, climate changes like flood and heat wave have become a big problem for the countries around the world. It is widely known that these climate changes have been caused by global warming from green-house gas (GHG). Thus, not only energy conservation and efficient use, but also carbon capture and sequestration or storage (CCS) technology are necessary to solve this issue.

According to the scenario of Department of Energy (DOE) in USA, the Carbon Sequestration Program aims at CO2 capture over 90% purity and storage. In according to the EU program, the captured CO2 with higher than 95% purity will be stored at a geological storage site. Some portion of captured CO2 can be used as a raw chemical material instead of storing it underground. However, in order to use the captured CO2 as a source of other products, such as bio-diesel, plastic products, chemical substances, additional purification process is needed to supply 98% CO2 in the industrial fields.

In the study, 90% CO2 with N2 balanced gas was used as feed gas. And 2-bed PSA and PVSA processes were experimentally and theoretically studied under 2.5 / 4.5 / 6.5 bar and 0.5bar vacuum. To improve purity and recovery, the simulation work was extended to 4-bed PSA and PVSA processes. CO2 with higher than 98% purity and 90% recovery was successfully obtained from the developed adsorptive process.
