Understanding the Brain: A Chemical Engineering Perspective

Chair(s)

Vadigepalli, R., Thomas Jefferson University

Co-chair(s)

Sambanis, A., Georgia Institute of Technology

This session will explore the roles of chemical engineers in understanding the brain, including understanding its molecular, cellular, and neuronal network structure and function; the brain interaction with proximal tissues, i.e., vasculature, and distant tissues, such as liver; transport processes and the blood/brain barrier; repair and regeneration strategies; and modeling of brain processes. The opportunities for chemical engineers to carry out this type of research and to contribute to the overall understanding of brain structure and function will be discussed.
