(236a) Retractions, Post-Publication Peer Review, and Fraud: Scientific Publishing’s Wild West

Beginning in 2010, a database documenting retractions in the scientific literature was developed. Since that time, retractions have nearly doubled. This presentation discusses probable reasons for the increase and the ramifications of erroneous data in the literature. The website describing the retractions has over 12,000 subscribers and receives over 500,000 views per month. Philanthropies, including the MacArthur Foundation, support this project.
