(262av) Apparent Molar Volumes of Saccharides in Aqueous Sodium Chloride Mixtures at Different Temperatures

In the present study, density experimental data of aqueous solutions of sodium chloride containing saccharides have been determined at different temperatures and composition. Density of the solutions have been determined by using and vibrating-tube densimeter manufactured by Anton Paar (Model 4500). The saccharides studied were D(+)-lactose, D(+)-glucose, D-fructose and sucrose (molalities saccharides range from 0.095 and 1.7 molâ??kg-1) in water and in (0.025; 0.050; 0.075 and 0.1 molâ??kg-1) aqueous sodium chloride at temperatures of T = (283.15, 288.15, 293.15, 298.15 and 303.15) K. The experimental results have been used to calculate the apparent molar volumes, infinite dilution apparent molar volumes and partial molar volumes of transfer of the saccharides from water to aqueous sodium chloride solutions. The results lead to believe that possible hydrophilic-ionic interactions among the hydrophilic groups (-OH, -C=O, -O-) of the saccharides and the ions (Na+ and Cl-) of the electrolyte can be predominant in the systems containing D(+)-lactose, D-fructose and sucrose while hydrophobic-ionic interactions among the hydrophobic groups (R=CH) of the solute and the ions (Na+ and Cl-) of the co-solute can be predominant in the system containing D(+)-glucose.
