The engine industries have seen tremendous growth for the past few decades. But along with industrial development use of crude oils increased to a new height which in return polluted over atmosphere to a extent of self destruction . Alternate fuels like biodiesel, biogas, LPG, CNG and hydrogen can be seen as a suitable substitute to conventional crude oils. Along with performance emission also plays a very important role in the development of alternate fuels. In a nut-shell, this article provides extensive review of performance and emission characteristics of different alternate fuels especially biodiesels. This article covers different working parameters and conditions under which internal combustion engine is working for different alternate fuels. Article also covers the extensive area of soot particles collection and characterization for different alternate fuels working under different conditions.
