Implementation of many of the modern student-based teaching techniques such as the flipped classroom, and active learning, consumes significant class time and eventually limits the overall covered material. Something, which could lower their efficiency and limit their applicability. This presentation discusses the combination of the micro-adaptive instruction as a methodology to extend "free" in-class-time in order to introduce the problem-creation-solving learning approach. Here I present the preliminary results and conclusions from this combination of methodologies on teaching "external flows" of a fluid dynamics course. Micro-adaptive instruction is implemented the past four years at the same course.
