In this work, we systematically studied the effect of pore size and doping site position of metal-free catalysts in MEAs using well-defined ordered mesoporous carbon system to achieve highly active metal-free catalysts in MEA levels. At first, we synthesized mesosporous phosphorus doped ordered mesoporous carbon with large pore (~38 nm) by block copolymer assisted co-assembly. Then, addition nitrogen doping was conducted with 2 different conditions using different sized nitrogen precursors. Finally, we fabricated and tested MEAs that employ metal-free catalysts as a cathode catalyst. As a result, the MEA performance of synthesized catalyst with precisely controlled doping sites considerably exceeds that of previously reported metal-free catalysts.
