Polypropylene thin films reinforced with various loading levels of surface treated silicon carbide (SiC) powders were prepared by extrusion process. The surface treatment of silicon carbide powders was successfully proved by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The dispersion quality of SiC powders with and without surface modification is monitored by an oscillatory rheological investigation. Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) tests were applied to investigate the crystal structure and crystallinity of the thin films. And the thermal stability was studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The morphology of thin films with different SiC loadings were characterized with a field emission scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, the dielectric permittivity and optical property of the thin films were studied systematically assessed as well.
