What can refineries do in a carbon constrained future? Obviously refineries will produce products to satisfy the product demand slates â?? primarily liquid transportation fuels. However, refineries can also remove the CO2 emissions associated with their operations. We will explore a CO2 capture concept comprised of a utilities plant that and produces hydrogen for combustion in the refinery furnaces and CO2 to send to storage outside the refinery boundary. This option could be the least-cost pathway for refineries to remove their CO2 emissions.
