Development of high-performance inorganic ionic conductors for all-solid-state lithium batteries has been considered as an ultimate solution to address the safety issues for transportation applications. The solid-state superionic conductors also enable the fabrication of thin and flexible batteries, which are urgently needed in burgeoning applications such as wearable electronics and implantable medical devices. However, the ionic conductivities of solid electrolytes are still much lower than those of the liquid electrolytes, thus limiting the applications of lithium batteries in many important areas. Here, we report the deposition of anti-perovskite Li3OCl solid-state electrolyte films with significantly enhanced superionic conductivity via pulsed laser deposition using a composite target. A room-temperature ionic conductivity of Li3OCl films as high as 2.0 Ã? 10â??4 S cmâ??1 is achieved using such a processing scheme, and this value is more than two orders of magnitude higher than that of its bulk counterpart. The superior compatibility between the electrolyte film and metallic Li is revealed by cycling a Li/Li3OCl/Li symmetric cell. The applicability of Li3OCl film as an electrolyte for solid-state thin-film Li-ion batteries has been demonstrated for the first time by examining the full Li-ion batteries. Our findings illustrate that the anti-perovskite films hold great promise as alternative solid electrolytes for electric-energy storage devices.
