For this work, a chute choke was designed to provide a constant bulk solids feed rate to a bucket elevator under conditions of sporadic impulse feed to the chute. The choke was designed using modifications to the Beverloo correlation obtained via an adjustable chute simulator built for experimentation. The simulator was constructed in order to investigate the effects of orifice size, chute angles, and tilt angle on the flow rate of the bulk solid. This talk will present the results of these experiments, along with the proposed interpretation of the effects of the experimental parameters on the Beverloo correlation.
