Accurate detection of hazardous chemicals is critical to the health of the public and the environment, and to the safe and efficient operation of many industrial processes. This presentation will discuss recent advances in low-power chemical sensing for health, environmental and process monitoring. It will also present our approach, which leverages the microfabrication technology to realize highly efficient microheater-based platforms with fast response and recovery times. The integration of a number of nanotechnology-based sensing materials with the microheater platform enables fast and sensitive detection of several health and environmental pollutants. The talk will end with current limitations and plans for future directions.
