Simson, A. - Presenter, University of New Haven
Highly effective middle school teachers create lessons that are differentiated, incorporate constant feedback, and maximize classroom time. This talk will review several simple teaching techniques that have been adopted from secondary school classrooms into university-level chemical engineering courses. These include the use of individual white boards, daily drills, and differentiated activities and assessments. These techniques can help structure a class period, address common areas of weakness without sacrificing significant class time, increase student engagement, and prevent “teaching to the middle.” This talk will demonstrate several techniques and present student feedback on their effectiveness.
