Fe2O3-MgO/Al2O3, prepared by the impregnation method, was characterized by BET, TPR, XRD, Raman and XPS methods. It was shown that Mg2+ went into Fe2O3 crystal lattice and solid solution was formed in Fe2O3-MgO/Al2O3. As a result, oxygen content of Fe2O3-MgO/Al2O3 increased and the grain size of Fe2O3 decreased. Both were in favour of oxidation-reduction reactions. Fe2O3-MgO/Al2O3 was used as the oxygen carrier in Chemical-Looping Hydrogen Generation, which is an oxidation-reduction reaction. The evaluation performances indicated that the oxygen carrier was so active that methane was totally oxidized at 850oC and atmosphere, and the hydrogen yield was high correspondingly. Combination of characteristic results and evaluation results, it was revealed that solid solution of MgO and Fe2O3 enhanced the oxygen content and dispersion of Fe2O3, which is beneficial to the methane conversion and hydrogen yield in chemical-looping hydrogen generation.
