We all understand the drab that comes with learning Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics in general. Now try teaching it at 8am and one can immediately see the conundrum that presents itself. Altering the classroom learning environment in unusual ways can spark new life into students who do not necessarily appreciate thermodynamics for what it is worth in their later courses. In this presentation, the use of classic household games to change the dynamics of the classroom will be discussed. From MONOPOLY to Blackjack, creating an incentive to learn Thermodynamics (and other concepts) leads to a transformation of the student that promotes growth and turns the classroom into a fun learning environment, even at 8am in the morning.
