(227a) Membrane Materials for Gas Separations

Authors

Freeman, B. D. - Presenter, University of Texas at Austin
Large scale industrial gas separations with polymer membranes began in earnest in about 1980, around the time that Bill Koros began his academic career. As the industry grew and new applications and challenges arose, Bill was a key contributor, providing crucial theoretical concepts that now underpin the science in this area, developing key structure/property insights that provide the foundation of modern materials design, exploring and developing novel concepts in materials design that many groups around the world have adopted, and supplying the field with the current generation of leaders both industrially and academically. No one has had such a profound effect on this field as Bill Koros. In recent times, he continues to push the envelope on development of novel materials and leads efforts to reduce them to practice. While being keenly connected with the fundamental science in the area, Bill is always driving towards real applications and meaningful engineering contributions. This presentation will highlight a few of many outstanding contributions he has made to the field of gas separations over 40+ years of outstanding practice in the field.
