(293d) The Relationship between Mass Transfer Efficiency and Equilibrium in Distillation

There is an intimate reationship between the rate of mass transfer efficiency and the euilibrim characteristics of the system. Wh.en mass trasnfer efficiencies are expressed in terms of stage efficiency or HETP this relationship is even stronger. So when using reported efficiencies one has to be aware of the equilibirum models used elucidate such efficiency numbers. Ths paper will present examples of this and will show how systems with different distribution coefficients show varied efficiencies. The concpet will be extended as well into its relevance in rate based modeling.
