(294a) Professor Wei-Shou Hu:  Dedicated to Service

Authors

Swartz, J. R. - Presenter, Stanford University
I have enjoyed the privilege of having Professor Hu as a friend and colleague for several decades. Throughout all that time, I have always been impressed by Wei-Shou’s selfless approach to his professional life. This talk will begin by describing the early days of CHO-based mammalian cell culture process development at Genentech to place in perspective his many contributions to that very important technology. I will also reminisce about some of Wei-Shou’s pioneering use of computer simulations and early artificial intelligence advances. Did you know that he also used these tools to advance forestry practices? Finally, it will be a pleasure to relate some of Wei-Shou’s many contributions to our professional societies including his incredible organizational abilities. These became especially apparent when I co-chaired a Biochemical Engineering meeting with him in 1997. It will be a pleasure and an honor to be part of this special day.
