Electrokinetics for Biological Separation and Analysis
Tuesday, October 31, 2017 - 9:00am to 9:15am
Cells have a much more complex electric signature in the presence of an applied external field than is typically discussed in the introduction to most papers on electrokinetic manipulations of cells. This talk will focus on cataloging and characterizing theoretical and experimental physical features and the forces associated with them for cells undergoing electrokinetic movements. While much is known about the behavior of cells in electric fields, there also remains a good deal that is poorly characterized or completely unknown. The physical features are very important to understand as the resolution of cell separations improves, allowing unequivocal identification based on electrokinetic measurements alone. In addition to discussing the physical features of cells, new device designs which promise higher resolution will be presented.
