Adsorption-based processes and materials for capture of CO2 are gaining increased attention as alternatives to overcome current limitations of the traditional absorption-based practice. The presentation will focus on CO2 adsorption on metal organic frameworks (MOFs), graphene oxide (GO), MOF/GO composites, as well as their amine-functionalized analogues. GO was fabricated by oxidation/exfoliation of graphite flakes and subsequent functionalization with various amine-bearing agents, namely ethylene diamine (ED), polyethylene-imine (PEI), and 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (APTES), Various MOFs and their composites with graphene oxide (GO) were also developed and further functionalized with amine groups as to enhance CO2 capacity and selectivity, and thermal and chemical stability of the developed adsorbents. The functionalized samples were characterized for their structural, textural, morphological features, and degree of surface functionalization. CO2 evaluation was performed as to exemplify the effect of functionalizing agent, functionalization conditions, MOF type and content, while the performance of the developed adsorbents under the presence of pre-adsorbed water was also investigated.
