Sand particle erosion modeling is a challenging task for engineers specially when it comes to gas-liquid-sand multiphase flow where different interfacial structures are present in the flow and the flow demonstrates highly-transient behavior.
The current work reviews available models and approaches for modeling erosion in single-phase and multiphase flow. Specifically, a comprehensive and advanced approach for investigating multiphase flow and erosion in multiphase flow is presented where capability of combining CFD and Wire-Mesh Sensor techniques is shown. Moreover, erosion prediction mechanistic models and empirical correlations are demonstrated. Finally, areas requiring more attention for further work are indicated.
